From Broken, to Blended, to Bonded
By · CommentsMost people who divorce remarry at some point in time and one of the results is frequently a blended family of step and biological siblings (sometimes described as “yours, mine and ours”). Divorce and the challenges of living in blended families are one of the most significant and common problems of the world today. And, the divorce rate among Christian families equals the divorce rate in non-christian homes. While we may lament this fact, it remains a fact and all blended families struggle with these blended relationships.
Wise People will focus on blended family challenges and solutions for the next two weeks. This week my guest is Rebecca Snell, who with her husband ministers to blended families to help them thrive. The following week my guest will be Dan Snell, Rebecca’s husband.
A Life of Depression
By · CommentsHave you ever struggled with serious depression? I’m talking about the kind of depression that just paralyzes you and presents feelings that life is not worth living. The kind of depression that leaves you without joy and without hope. My guest today is an 84 year old man who suffered this kind of depression for the first 50 years of his life. It was caused by an abusive father and some horrifying experiences he lived through in World War 2. Lawrence “Corky” Smith joins us on Wise People this Saturday to talk about his life and how his two sons led him to Christ when he was 50 years old.
The State of the Church – Hath God Said
By · CommentsThere is a crisis of truth in the modern American church characterized by doctrinal disunity. The cause may be tracked back to Satan’s ancient deception whereby he moves to confuse God’s people and the world about the truth of what God has said. His strategy is revealed at the very fall of man when he engaged Eve with the question: “(Gen 3:1) Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”
God had not said what Satan suggested and that caused Eve to start thinking and opened the door to doubt and disobedience. Satan continues to use this same strategy today. My guest on Wise People for the next two weeks: July July 31st and August 7th is Dr. Elizabeth K. Best. You won’t want to miss her critical analyis of the modern challenge to God’s word.
Deliver Detroit
By · CommentsI am always amazed at the changing power of faith. My guest on Wise People this week is a perfect example of how God is able to reach out and touch troubled people and radically transform their lives. James was a hardened herion addict from his teen years who would up in jail with no hope. Then, he heard a transforming message about the forgiveness of sin and God’s redemptive work in Christ. It changed his heart, his life and his entire existence. Tune in to hear this great story this Saturday morning.

Losing the Culture War
By · CommentsWhy do Christians seem to be losing the culture wars in the United States? Where is the church failing in its reponsibility to make disciples of Jesus Christ? My guest this week is a fascinating man named Dan Edelen. Dan is a layman who is not only a compentent Bible student but also a very critical thinker. He’s going to be with me for the next two weeks exploring the state of the church and offering what he believes we all need to be doing to reestablish a vibrant, faithful church in America.
Death By Train
By · CommentsA young girl suffered from extreme depression in her high-school years. It became so painful to her she began to seriously consider suicide, but she could not decide the method by which she could take her life. A railroad track was near her home and one day on an impulse she placed herself on the track in front of an oncoming freight train. She was hit by the train, losing both of her legs – but she survived.
My guest this week is Kristen Anderson, the young girl who attempted to take her own life by placing herself on that train track. Be sure to tune in to Wise People this Saturday to hear Kristen’s inspiring story.
A Family Tragedy

They were all driven from school back to their home where they learned that their father had murdered their mother and then taken his own life. For many years Val Henderson struggled with hate and anger toward the father she vowed never to forgive. But, the Lord intervened in her live and she ultimately forgave him. The Berean Wife
By · CommentsMy guest this Saturday is Fara Caudle. Fara authors a blog called the Berean Wife.
One of the major issues in the church today is the biblical knowledge of it’s lay members as well as the tendency for people to rely more on personal experience and feelings than the scriptures. Fara discusses why it is so important that we all become more like the Bereans mentioned in the book of acts, who “searched the scriptures to see if it was so”.
